NEWS AND COMING EVENTS
NEW TIME Vacation Church School Announced
Monday July 20th through Friday July 24th, 9 to Noon daily (ONE WEEK EARLIER)
The Vacation Church School Committee has revised the time for the event from the last week in July the the week before that (20-24 July).
The program we will use is called "Rome," setting the students
in First Century Rome. They will visit St. Paul under house-arrest, explore a
catacomb, and so on.
They'll learn some conversational
Latin and find out what it was like to be a Christian in the dynamic
mix of Jews and Gentiles that was the early Church in Rome. The New
Testament era will come alive!
Come one, come all! Ages 5 years and up are welcome to take part.

Tympanum Project Result
On June 21, Bishop Williams dedicated the work accomplished on the Tympanium thus far. The mandorla surrounding the original ceramic of Our Lady is now gold-leafed. Spaces left for mosaics on either side have yet to be filled. A design for two kneeling angels is finished, awaiting funding. The Photoshop picture (below right) illustrates how it will appear when completed. An initial gift from the family of Fr. James H. Jordan, second Rector of St. Mary's, got the project going. It was a project he longed to see completed.

About St. Mary's
For ninety years, St. Mary's has lived in the midst of Hollywood, proclaiming the Catholic Faith and expressing that faith in the best traditions of Anglicanism. To continue our mission we've established this website. Through it we hope to both share the Faith with our visitors and entice those of you living in Los Angeles to join us for Mass - and maybe then for life!
The Catholic Faith is joyful to its core and part of that joy is sheer fun. At St. Mary's, holy water is liberally splashed, incense clouds the church, and our voices are loud in the praise of the Three-in-One. The stately procession which begins the Solemn High Mass draws less attention from the congregation than does the uneven line of stomping toddlers who join us at the altar rail for a blessing. Yet those same people who "belt out" the hymns on Sunday quietly offer the Eternal Sacrifice with the priest in the chapel on weekdays when the whisper of the Mass is almost inaudible.
The joy is not in the noise (or lack of it), in the incense, or in the water. We are joyful and revel in our worship because of the One Who Is Present.
As you journey through our website, I hope that's what you see. If it is, we have succeeded. And we hope you'll join us at St. Mary's and share in that joyful Presence with us.
